Backup fails because it cannot initialize the DAO/JET db engine.

Problem

The backup fails with an error message similiar to the following:
ERROR: 30000: Unable to initialize DAO/Jet db engine. [-2147221164 (0x80040154)] {eFS:Cliehe-JET:148}

This indicates that either Microsoft MDAC or the Microsoft JET 4.0 engine is not installed properly.

If the error message includes the error number 0x80040154 this is equivalent to the REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG error being returned from OLEDB/MDAC. This indicates that MDAC is properly installed, but the Microsoft JET 4.0 engine is not installed or is not functioning properly.

Resolution

Upgrade to a newer version of the software. Recent versions of the software do not require the the JET database engine. You can upgrade using the Software Updates tab (or Auto Updater tab) of the System Status page, or by downloading the setup program and reinstalling (your existing settings will be preserved).
