The $38 tablet is here

Sometimes a cheap tablet acts like a cheap tablet. At least that is the case with the new Datawind Ubislate 7Ci, an Android tablet that’s on sale now for the low, low price of $38. Time Magazine recently reviewed the tablet. It’s message? Business owners and consumers should not expect too much for their $38.

The bottom

Tablet manufacturers have been steadily lowering their prices. It’s a race to attract the attention and spending cash of the most budget-minded of consumers. This is great news for consumers, obviously. As tablet prices keep falling, more consumers can begin to play with these handy mobile computers. But no tablet today costs less than Datawind’s latest model.

Performance?

So, is the Ubislate, with its low price tag, a good buy? That depends. For consumers who just want a basic tablet, the Ubislate 7Ci may be enough, based on Time’s review. But business owners who need to equip their employees with powerful tablets should look elsewhere. The Ubislate 7Ci doesn’t boast much storage, and its performance is poor. Its battery dies too soon and its viewing angles are inferior.

But that price

Of course, that $38 price tag is still impressive. Time admitted this much in its review. And if you are budget-savvy consumer or business owner, Datawind’s move is good news for you. This tablet may not be the right one for you. But the existence of the Ubislate 7Ci does prove one thing: Budget tablets are only going to get more affordable. You don’t have to pay a small fortune to own a tablet any longer.
